Farrukhsiyar: important Points and General Knowledge for competitive examinations.

  1. Farrukhsiyar was the tenth Mughal Emperor.
  2. Farrukhsiyar was born on 20 August 1683 in Aurangabad.
  3. His reign was from 1713 to 1719.
  4. His father was Azim-ush-Shan the Grandson of Bahadur Shah I.
  5. His Kashmiri mother was Sahiba Niswan.
  6. 1696: Farrukhsiyar went to Bengal with his father as an assistant.
  7. 1707: He served in Bengal as a governor after his father before ascending to the throne.
  8. 1713: Farrukhsiyar ascended the throne by killing Jahandar Shah with the help of Abdullah Khan and Hussain Ali (Sayyid brothers) of the Hindustani clan.
  9. 1713: After defeating his uncle Jahandar Shah at Samugarh Farrukhsiyar captured the Red Fort of Delhi.
  10. 1714: Ajmer Campaign: Ajit Singh of Marwar captured Ajmer (part of the Mughal empire) but surrendered to Farrukhsiyar at Merta.
  11. He married Ajit Sing’s daughter Kunwari Indira Kanwar.
  12. 1715: Campaign against Sikh: Farrukhsiyar with his commander Abdus Samad Khan defeated the Sikh leader Banda Singh Bahadur. He captured Sikh leader Banda Bahadur and killed him in Delhi on 19 June 1716.
  13. 1717: He gave the East India Company a ‘Dastak’ of trade in Bengal-Bihar-Orissa with no customs duties.
  14. 1718: Campaign against the Jats: Jat leader Churaman started revolts from the northern side (Agra). Initially, it was hard for Farrukhsiyar to suppress the revolts. However, later he suppressed it. Churaman accepted the Mughal authority and made a peace treaty.
  15. The Sayyid brothers (who were courtiers) held all real power. That made Farrukhsiyar just a puppet ruler.
  16. He appointed Abdullah Khan as Wazir, Husain Ali as Mirbaksi and Chin-Kilich Khan as Subadar of the Deccan.
  17. 1719: Sayyid brothers killed Farrukhsiyar.
  18. Inayatullah Khan (governor appointed by Farrukhsiyar in Kashmir) reimposed the Jizyah tax on Hindus.
  19. Farrukhsiyar introduced Silver rupee and gold mohur coins with “Sikka zad az fazl-i-Haq bar sim o zar/ Padshah-i-bahr-o-bar Farrukhsiyar” inscribed with them.
