Yusuf Adil Shah was the founder of Adil Shahi dynasty. He founded this dynasty in 1490 AD. It was an independent dynasty. This dynasty was established in Bijapur on the ruins of the Bahmani dynasty. It was one of the five Deccan Sultanate dynasties in south India. Yusuf was defeated by the Portuguese ruler Alfonso de Albuquerque of Goa in 1510 AD. He built the Farooq Mahal in Bijapur. He was an established musician and scholar.

- 1686: The Mughals conquered Bijapur during the reign of Aurangzeb.
- 12 December 1686: Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb captured Bijapur. He defeated Sultan Sikandar Adil Shah of Bijapur.
- Sikandar Adil Shah was the last Sultan of Bijapur.
Extra Info: Battle of Talikota (1565): The Battle of Talikota was fought between the Vijayanagara Empire and the Adil Shahi dynasty. After this battle, the Vijayanagara Empire collapsed. As a result, Adil Shahi dynasty rose.
Malik-e-Maidan: It is the largest cannon in the world in medieval period. It is located in Bijapur. It is a symbol of military strength of the Adil Shahi dynasty.
